Plant shop in Barcelona.
We grow our own plants in Montgat, on the Maresme coast. Delivery across Barcelona, free pickup at the nursery, and yes — we speak English.
Most plant shops in Barcelona buy from a distributor, who imports from large greenhouses in the Netherlands. The plant has often been travelling and sitting in storage for weeks before it reaches the shop window.
We work the other way round. We are the nursery. We grow our plants in Montgat, on the Maresme coast, twenty minutes by train from Plaça de Catalunya — and that is where your plant comes from.
Why a locally grown plant lasts longer
A plant raised in a Dutch greenhouse has grown under carefully controlled humidity, temperature and light. It is a perfect plant for that place. When it lands in a flat in the Eixample in August, or next to a radiator in January, the change is brutal and many do not survive it.
Ours grow outdoors and in the Mediterranean climate you actually live in. They arrive already acclimatised, which matters most during the first few weeks at home — the weeks that decide whether a plant settles in or slowly gives up.
This week's offers.
Every Monday we pick two plants from the nursery and drop the price for seven days.
Indoor plants.
The ones that cope with a city flat: indirect light, winter heating and watering that is not always on time.
Advice for living in Barcelona
A few things nobody tells you when you move here:
Light is the real constraint. Many flats in the old town and the Eixample face an inner courtyard and get very little direct light. Before choosing a plant, look at where it will live. If your hand does not cast a visible shadow on the wall at midday, only the toughest plants will cope — pothos, sansevieria, zamioculcas, aspidistra.
Winter heating is the hidden killer. It dries the air far more than most indoor plants tolerate. Brown leaf tips in January are almost always dry air, not thirst. Grouping plants together and keeping them away from radiators helps more than watering.
August. The city empties and so do the flats. If you travel for two or three weeks, choose plants that will forgive you: succulents, sansevieria and zamioculcas will not even notice.
What we grow
- Indoor plants: monstera, pothos, calathea, ficus, zamioculcas, sansevieria, philodendron and a fair number of rarer things you will not find in a garden centre chain.
- Outdoor plants for balconies and terraces, grown outdoors on the coast and used to the sun and salt wind.
- Fresh flowers and bouquets, ready-made or to order.
- Pots and accessories, so you can take it home already potted.
The catalogue changes with the season. That is what growing rather than importing does.

Or come to the nursery — we speak English
The Urban Garden is open to the public at Plaça de la Mare, Montgat. Take the R1 train from Plaça de Catalunya, Arc de Triomf or Clot; it is roughly twenty minutes, and the nursery is a five-minute walk from the station.
We can help you in English, Spanish or Catalan. Tell us what your flat is like — which way the windows face, how much light comes in, how often you travel — and we will tell you honestly what will survive, even if it is not the most photogenic plant on the bench.
Online orders can be collected free of charge, whatever the amount. It is also the best option for a large plant: no days spent in a dark box.
Workshops and plants for offices
We run small-group workshops at the nursery — the fastest way to stop being afraid of plants is to get your hands in the soil. And if you run an office, a shop or a restaurant in Barcelona, our plant rental service covers everything: we choose, install and come back to maintain them.

A fair question that nobody asks out loud. If you are here short-term, go for plants that are easy to rehome or hard to kill: pothos, sansevieria, zamioculcas.
Avoid large specimens you will not be able to take with you, and avoid anything that needs constant attention if you travel often.
Rules vary by airline and by destination country, and plants with soil are restricted almost everywhere outside the EU. We cannot advise on customs.
If you are moving within the EU it is usually simpler, but check with your airline first.
We will replace it or refund you, and cover the cost of the new shipment.
You need to tell us within 24 hours of delivery, with your order number and photos of the box (lid included) and the plant, and you must keep the original box.
